I mean, why do we ask ourselves questions about the nature of being and spend valuable time wondering for answers? What is this desire in the human mind to be obsessed with abstract ideas to a point of despair?
I used to get carried away by ‘big questions’ — why do we exist? What is the purpose of being? Why am I aware? Is there a grand being outside of this?

Of course history show us many attempts to answer the grand questions. Religions for instance, have introduced their versions of answers and demanded complete believe. But aren’t these answers simply a permission for us to stop asking, to stop searching and caring?

A thought experiment
Imagine with me that one night while your are camping in the desert and contemplating life you were in contact with a Being of ultimate knowledge and you were given permission to ask all the questions that are lurking in your mind.
Nothing will stay a mystery for you after this. You have got all the answers to your questions and maybe you were even shown the zero and ones of the interworking of the universe. The things you have seen on your trip, you cant even find the words to describe.
At the end you were returned to your place and left as you were.
What will become of you when you are dropped off in your apartment building and were left to live your daily life? Tomorrow you have to attend the same job, meet the same people and must respond to the same demands of life. Or if you truly overwhelmed with the knowledge you received, you will abandon all of your previous life.
The reality is that life doesn’t pose these questions! Our minds do. When we receive answers about the grand scheme of things, our minds might be relieved but our routine life is still unchanged !
I think you might agree with me now that these so called ‘big questions’ weren’t the right questions to seek. Maybe the desire we share with the ancient human is better articulated by the question, How do I deal with the daily problems of living? How I never give up and take my own life? Maybe the best question to ask is about the process of living — if we really seeking truth.
